About Our Brickwork

Brickwork covers garden boundary walls, brick piers, low retaining courses and features like planters or BBQ surrounds, with every wall starting below ground in a trench filled with a concrete footing, using engineering brick below the damp-proof course and facing brick above. Mortar mix, bonding pattern and coping are matched to the wall's load and exposure, and where new brickwork ties into an existing wall we check brick type, colour and coursing to match.

Common Questions

Can new brickwork match our existing house or wall?

Often yes, though it depends on how close a match is available for the brick type and colour. We look at the existing brickwork during the site visit and source brick to match as closely as possible, but with older properties an exact match isn't always achievable.

Do garden walls need planning permission?

It depends on the height of the wall and where it sits on the property, particularly next to a public highway. Rules vary, so it's worth checking with your local planning department if you're unsure, and we're happy to talk through what's being proposed.

How long does mortar need to cure before the wall can be used?

Mortar gains most of its strength over the first few days but continues curing for longer, so we'd advise against putting any real load or weight against a new wall until it's had time to set properly. We'll talk through the right timeframe for your particular job.
